Dawson Creek emergency department closed for ten hours

The Dawson Creek and District Hospital’s emergency department was closed for ten hours on Saturday, May 17th, due to staffing challenges.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — The emergency department at Dawson Creek and District Hospital has experienced a diversion.

According to a Facebook post from Northern Health, the department closed between 12 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 17th, due to staffing challenges.

This is the second diversion at the facility so far this month, following a 6.5-hour closure on May 12th.

Residents in need of life-threatening urgent care can call 911 for transportation to the nearest available emergency department.

Meanwhile, people with less urgent care needs are encouraged to contact their primary care provider or call the NH Virtual Clinic at 1-844-645-7811.
