FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A Fort St. John-based hair salon is offering haircuts for the price of a can of food.

Studio 105 Salon in Fort St. John will host its 10th annual Cuts for Cans fundraiser on Saturday, March 7th at its location at 10712 105th Avenue.

The concept is simple: people can drop in starting Saturday morning with a non-perishable food item, and in exchange get a haircut free of charge, according to manager Melodie Hebert.

All foods collected will benefit the Fort St. John Salvation Army food bank.

“Every single item that we collect goes directly to the families who need it most,” Hebert told Energeticcity.ca. “The goal is that we want to get through as many people as humanly possible.”

Due to the nature of the drop-in event, no appointments or registration is necessary. Hebert said some items are in higher need than others.

“Anything from toiletries such as paper towels or toilet paper,” said Hebert. “Female necessities,  [like] tampons are in need. Diapers and baby formula as well.

“There won’t be any styling, there’s not going to be any blowouts. The goal is that we want to get through as many people as humanly possible…So we can keep those chairs moving and those donation bins overflowing.”

Cuts for Cans 2026 takes place on Saturday, March 7th beginning at 9:30 a.m. and ending at 3 p.m.
