Behind the Scenes

To ring in the new year, we decided to share some of our highlights from 2023:

Tre: My favourite movie of the year happens to be a documentary and not a lighthearted one. I highly recommend “Take Care of Maya,” detailing a situation where two parents were accused of child abuse after bringing their daughter to the hospital. It is intense and also still very current, as the family won the lawsuit against the hospital in question in November.

Jordan: My 2023 highlights were flying to Vancouver to see my favourite band, Queens of the Stone Age and also seeing the northern lights for the first time.

Shailynn: I got a new kitten! His name is Hades, and he is a MENACE. In case you haven’t heard, I’m also a HUGE Swiftie and Taylor Swift had a HUGE year.

-She was named Time Magazine’s 2023 Person of the Year.

-Four years AFTER its release, Cruel Summer, from her album Lover, hit number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

-She released TWO re-recordings, 1989 (Taylor’s Version) and Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), each with new vault tracks. Both albums hit number 1 on the Billboard 200.

-Swift was the top streaming artist on Spotify and Apple Music. She is the most streamed female artist in Apple Music history.

Top Stories of 2023

It’s always interesting to see what the readers of Energeticcity.ca are most interested in the region. Sometimes it’s a big decision that will impact property taxes, and sometimes it’s a new restaurant coming to town. To wrap-up 2023, we released our Top Stories of the Year in Part 1 and Part 2. Here are our three most read stories of 2023:

  1. Our Wildfire Coverage: While this is technically more than one story, the wildfires that raged across BC all summer impacted all of us in one way or another. From Fort St John being put on evacuation alert to the Donnie Creek wildfire becoming the largest in BC history, we made sure to provide as much up-to-date information as we could.
  2. Dawson Creek Woman Found Dead in Mexico: This tragic story happened back in March of this year. Recently, a vigil was held in Vancouver to honour Kiara Agnew and other homicide victims, including a woman who was killed in Chetwynd in February.
  3. Local Hockey Player Agrees to Terms with Vancouver Canucks: Fort St. John native Tristen Nielsen agreed to terms with the Canucks on a two-year, entry-level contract back in July.
