FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Preparations for the City of Fort St. John’s 2024 High on Ice Winter Festival are slated to begin on Wednesday.

Though the event kicks off over the Family Day long weekend next month, residents can expect to see activity in the North Peace Leisure Pool parking lot starting on January 31st.

According to a release from the city, the 100th Street driveway access into Centennial Park will be closed from Wednesday until February 20th due to active machinery working in the area.

The city advises residents to use the entrance on 96th Avenue to park at the pool or park behind the curling club and Pomeroy Sport Centre.

For their safety, pedestrians are required to stay out of event areas in Centennial Park while professional ice carvers are at work and event staff prepare the park for the event.

High on Ice kicks off on Friday, February 16th, at 3:30 p.m. The event will begin with opening remarks at the Centennial Park stage, followed by city council’s “slide-off” to officially open the ice slides.

After the slide-off, a professional single-block ice carving competition will occur in the formal garden area.
