Strong winds cause power outages across B.C. overnight

BC Hydro has reported nearly 70 power outages overnight on March 7th and 8th across B.C. amidst a yellow wind warning.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — More than 18,000 customers lost power overnight across the province as strong winds swept the province. 

According to BC Hydro’s outage map, more than 69 outages across the province resulted in over 18,184 customers losing power overnight on March 8th.

The causes include trees down across the lines, wires down, transmission circuit failures, and wind storms. This comes after Environment Canada reported a yellow wind warning for winds gusting to 60 kilometres per hour overnight on March 8th.

As of 9:30 a.m. on March 8th, BC Hydro continues to work on 64 outages impacting 6,666 customers across northern B.C.

In northern B.C., approximately 36 outages have been resolved.
