Peace Country Pickleball hosts introductory sessions at Kin Park

Pickleball Canada said membership in its organization had grown to 85,223 members as of the end of 2024.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Peace Country Pickleball Association (PCPA) will host free introductory lessons to the sport for a fourth consecutive year.

The introductory lessons for pickleball will take place at Kin Park in Fort St. John, starting on Tuesday, May 19th and will be held weekly throughout the summer.

Held on a smaller court, pickleball shares similarities with tennis, with the main differences being a hard plastic paddle and a hard, holed plastic ball.

Sessions will be conducted by PCPA members, and is a chance for the public to learn the ins and outs of pickleball, according to PCPA past president Ted Euchner.

“[Participants] will learn proper serving techniques, strategy and rules of the game,” said Euchner.

Pickleball, which was first developed in the 1960s in the United States, has seen an incredible rise in popularity over the past decade.

According to a 2025 report by Pickleball Canada, membership in the country’s governing body had risen to 85,223 members by the end of 2024.

Court shoes, such as tennis shoes, are suitable for play. Sandals, Crocs and other footwear are prohibited. Eyewear is also recommended but not mandatory.

Paddles and balls will be provided by the PCPA. The pickleball introductory sessions will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Kin Park at 11707 96th Street in Fort St. John.
