Although it is only the beginning of May, we have already seen some wildfires pop up in the region. As we have done the past couple of years, we will be having a reporter work later shifts to ensure that important information is shared with the public even into the evening.

Other sources include the BC Wildfire Service’s website, the Peace River Regional District’s website, and your specific community’s website and social media pages. It’s always interesting to see what the readers of Energeticcity.ca are most curious about. Sometimes it’s a big decision that will impact property taxes, and sometimes it’s a new restaurant coming to town. Here are the most-read stories for the week of May 3 to 9, 2026:

  1. Former FSJ Dance Teacher Charged: with alleged historical sexual offences. BC Prosecution Service laid charges against 45-year-old Nigel Brock Jellison, known as “Brock Jellison,” and a Canada-wide warrant was issued for his arrest. 
  2. FSJ Teacher Charged: with possessing child sexual abuse material. According to the BC Prosecution Service, Matthew Alexander Douglas McColm was charged with one count of possession of child sexual abuse or exploitation material.
  3. New Site C Boat Launches: to potentially open this summer, according to BC Hydro. According to the statement, the new boat launches include two full-size ramps at Halfway River and Lynx Creek and one small craft launch at DA Thomas Recreation Area in Hudson’s Hope.
