Child Development Centre’s 53rd talent show raises more than $100K
Fort St. John’s Child Development Centre’s 53rd annual talent show raised more than $100K on March 6th, which will go towards its capital campaign program.
FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A talent show hosted by a non-profit organization in Fort St. John has raised more than $100,000 so far.
The funds raised during the Fort St. John Child Development Centre’s (CDC) 53rd annual talent show, which happened on March 6th at the North Peace Cultural Centre, will go towards the centre’s capital campaign.
Crystal Kalas, supported child development consultant and talent show coordinator for CDC, told Energeticcity.ca: “Our total is $107,431…[but] we still have mail outs coming in, so we may still add to that.”

Kalas said the talent show went well and the North Peace Cultural Centre was full from the start of the show.
“We had our preschool and daycare program from the CDC participate, a local daycare program, cheerleaders, singers and dancers,” she said.
The funds raised will go towards the capital campaign, which has an overall goal of $500,000, to remodel and renovate a home that will provide families with an opportunity to have respite while kids can attend programming that helps build life skills.
The current total for the capital campaign stands at $303,431.

“We had a video called the ‘CDC spoofs The Office,’ which is a video of CDC staff and children in our preschool and other programs here at the center,” she said. “That was a huge hit with the audience. I heard a lot of laughter and comments when I was sitting in the audience watching from children and families about how great it was.”
Kalas believes the final numbers for the funds raised for the talent show will come in at the end of March.
“I would imagine, because donations that come in for the rest of the month will still go towards the talent show.”
In addition to this, the CDC has an annual Charity Golf Tournament, which has been scheduled for September and is open to the public.
Kalas said: “Registration won’t be out until probably July or August, so right now, they can just express an interest.”
