Dawson Creek reopens warming centre due to cold weather

The City of Dawson Creek has reopened its warming centre at Nawican Shelter on 102nd Avenue until March 15th to support the community as the cold weather continues.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — The City of Dawson Creek has reopened its warming centre as the cold spell continues.

According to a Facebook post uploaded to the City of Dawson Creek’s page, the Nawican Shelter will be open 24 hours a day until March 15th. 

The shelter, located at 1401 102nd Avenue, is being operated by the Nawican Friendship Centre and funded by the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR).

According to Environment Canada, temperatures in Dawson Creek are forecasted to drop on March 12th to -23 C with wind chill this morning. The city can also expect a 60 per cent chance of snow flurries this evening. 

The shelter will be providing refreshments on-site and it is meant to support the community during the colder months.
