We have some changes happening in the newsroom over the next couple of months. First, we are saying goodbye to one of our General Reporters, Jacob Gendron. For the past few months, we had Jacob working remotely to fill in while we looked to fill the position locally. We are excited to say we have filled that position (more information to come later) but we are also sad to say goodbye to Jacob. Here is a message from Jacob on his time working with our community:
“For the past seven months, I’ve had the honour and privilege of being part of the Energeticcity.ca/Moose Media team. During that time, I’ve come to know and truly appreciate Fort St. John and the Peace region. Even though I wasn’t there in person, speaking with residents and local leaders and sharing their stories allowed me to feel connected to the community in a meaningful way.
I was fortunate to work alongside an incredible news team: Ed, Caitlin, Steve, Ruth and of course, Franki, the best news director a reporter could ask for. I learned so much during my time here, not only about the Peace region, but about reporting itself. This was my first real reporting job outside of college, and I will always be grateful for the opportunity and experience.
Latest Stories
Thank you, Fort St. John. The community will always hold a special place in my heart. I would love to visit, or maybe even live there, one day. And who knows? Maybe someday I’ll return to the news team, this time in person.”
Second, we are also sad to report that we are looking for a new News Director. Franki Berry will be with us for another month or so as we look for her replacement and we will provide more information as we get closer to her leaving. In the meantime, check out our job posting to see if you would be interested in the role:
Most-Read Stories of the Week
It’s always interesting to see what the readers of Energeticcity.ca are most curious about. Sometimes it’s a big decision that will impact property taxes, and sometimes it’s a new restaurant coming to town. Here are the most-read stories for the week of March 1 to 7, 2026:
- BC to Scrap Daylight Savings Time: and align with the northeast year-round. In a press release on Monday, March 2, B.C. said after March 8, when clocks will go forward by one hour, it will scrap seasonal time changes beginning in the fall.
- FSJ Liquor Store Fined $7K: for selling alcohol to an undercover minor. On the Rocks Liquor Store admitted to the contravention but asked to be fined rather than be suspended.
- Two Died in Single-Vehicle Crash: on Alaska Highway near Summit Lake. The incident occurred on March 3, 2026, after a semi-truck left Highway 97 and went down an embankment.
