FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Shane Sutherland has pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of his girlfriend, Amanda Black, in 2021.
Sutherland was arrested and charged with second-degree murder after Black was found deceased at a home in Village St. John around 7:30 p.m. on February 8th, 2021.
Sutherland entered his plea in Fort St. John Supreme Court on October 16th, on what was supposed to be the first day of his trial.
His sentencing hearing will take place on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Fort St. John.
Dan McLaughlin, communications counsel with the BC Prosecution Service, said impact statements may be heard during the sentencing hearing.
After the trial was delayed earlier this year, Sutherland opted for a trial by judge alone. He was also denied bail in January.Â
