$6.87M in roadworks projects approved for downtown Fort St. John
The City of Fort St. John has finalized two construction projects totalling $6.87 million for downtown road maintenance and rebuilding.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The City of Fort St. John has approved more than $6.87 million in roadwork projects for construction during the summer.
During the March 23rd regular meeting, the City of Fort St. John council approved two roadwork projects, rebuilding and upgrading downtown roads.
The first project was the Peace River Road Roadworks Project, awarded to S. Young Enterprises for a total of $3.33 million, which will see the reconstruction of the Peace River Road from 112th Avenue to 110th Avenue.
“The project includes reconstruction of the roadway, replacement of the deficient water, relining of the sewer mains and the installation of sidewalks, streetlights and storm sewers,” the staff report stated.
The total project cost, including engineering fees, construction and contingency, is expected to be $3.72 million, which is more than $1.04 million below the $4.77 million budget approved by the city.
“A plan has been established to provide continuous access through the site for 111th Avenue East, and as much as possible, the residents on Peace River Road,” the report said.
The second project, phase two of reconstruction on 102nd Street and 104th Street, was awarded to Knappett Industries for a tender cost of approximately $3.55 million.

The city had allocated $4.70 million in the 2026 capital budget for the project, and Knappett Industries’ bid keeps the project approximately $726,000 under budget for a total project cost of $3.97 million, including engineering, construction and contingency.
Construction will stretch along 102nd Street, rebuilding and upgrading the road from 111th Avenue to 109th Avenue. Additionally, work will be conducted on 104th Avenue from 111th Avenue to 109th Avenue.
The exact start dates for both projects have not yet been determined, and affected residents will be notified before construction begins.
