CHETWYND, B.C. — The Fort St. John Senior Flyers winning streak was snapped at two after losing to the Dawson Creek Canucks in Chetwynd.

Despite an early lead, the Flyers could not sustain the momentum. Allowing three second-period goals was the difference, as the Canucks prevailed by a score of 5-2 in North Peace Hockey League (NPHL) senior action on Thursday, January 15th.

The neutral site game at the Chetwynd and District Recreation Centre was a make-up date, as it had been postponed due to weather in late December.

Charles Burd opened the scoring in the first period for the Flyers before the Canucks’ Alex Hanson tied things up at one goal apiece before the end of the frame.

However, the Canucks’ Braeden Allkins scored his first of two goals on the evening halfway through the second period, scoring another on the power-play minutes later.

Kris Desjarlais scored with a minute left in the second to put the Canucks ahead by a score of 4-1 after two periods.

Flyers captain Cayle Bell scored early in the third period to cut the score in half, 4-2. But that was as close as Fort St. John would get, as the Canucks scored a late goal courtesy of John- Wayne Howes to re-establish a three-goal advantage.

Flyers goaltender Ty Gullickson made 32 saves in the loss. Fort St. John currently sits in eighth place in the nine-team NPHL standings, with a record of three wins and eight losses.

The Flyers have a quick turnaround as they get prepared for their next game against the Grande Prairie Athletics on Friday evening, January 16th.

Game time is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. at the North Peace Arena. For more details about the Flyers, visit the team’s Facebook page.
