Fort St. John and Dawson Creek welcome first babies of 2026

Hadley and Bradley were both born on New Year’s Day 2026 at the Fort St. John Hospital and Dawson Creek and District Hospital respectively.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Both Fort St. John and Dawson Creek welcomed their first babies of the year on New Year’s Day.

In a Facebook post, Northern Health announced Fort St. John’s first baby of 2026 is a girl. 

Baby Hadley was born at the Fort St. John Hospital on January 1st at 7:25 a.m. to parents Shaylee and Ryan Soderquist of Fort St. John. She weighed six pounds, 11 ounces at birth.

According to a Facebook post by the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation on January 2nd, the family received a gift basket donated by Shoppers Drug Mart. 

The Soderquists were also gifted a petal for the foundation’s Baby Bouquet Wall, which recognizes newborns in the community. 

New parents can purchase petals, with funds going towards the hospital’s Maternal and Pediatric Fund.

Just over an hour after Hadley’s birth, Dawson Creek welcomed its first baby of the year, a boy. 

In another announcement on Facebook, Northern Health said baby Bradley was born at Dawson Creek and District Hospital on January 1st at 8:54 a.m. to parents Amanda and Dylan of Groundbirch. He weighed eight pounds, 11 ounces.

Bradley is also being welcomed home by his older sister, Neveah.
