Huskies defenceman commits to University of Jamestown

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A mainstay of the Fort St. John Huskies has decided his next move after going out on top with a Strike Group North West Junior Hockey League (NWJHL) title.

Forward/defenceman Tanner McCracken has committed to the University of Jamestown located in North Dakota for the 2025-26 season, according to a Facebook post from the Huskies on Friday, June 6th.

A hometown product, McCracken leaves the Huskies after four seasons, with his final year being his most productive.

In 40 regular-season contests, he scored nine goals and had 35 assists for a total of 44 points. McCracken was more proficient in the playoffs, with a goal and nine assists for 10 points as Fort St. John captured its fifth title in six seasons.

In 142 career regular-season games, McCracken had 33 goals and 68 assists for 101 total points. But more importantly, the 22-year-old’s veteran presence provided solid leadership for a young Huskies squad on their way to a title.

“Tanner’s leadership and dedication have been exemplary,” reads the post. “His commitment to excellence has left a lasting impact on our organization.”

McCracken’s new squad, the University of Jamestown Jimmies, play in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) division one. 

ACHA is made up of American collegiate hockey programs not affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

On the ice, the Jimmies finished with a record of 24 wins and 10 losses in 2024-25, falling to Liberty University of Lynchburg, Virginia in the second round of the ACHA national championship tournament.
