Hudson’s Hope starts construction on water clarifier

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Hudson’s Hope is less than two weeks away from the start of construction for its new permanent water clarifier. 

The District of Hudson’s Hope has announced equipment manufacturer Veolia will be on site to commission a new permanent water clarifier starting Aug. 4.

The planned construction was first announced on July 7, with the goal of completing commissioning by the fall. 

This comes after various local water shut-offs, a vote from the district to borrow nearly $5 million to construct a new permanent water treatment facility in July 2024, a dispute between the district and the utility and protests from the community.

During this phase of construction, the district stated it does not expect any water service interruptions.

“Once the new clarifier has been commissioned, the district will switch over from the temporary clarifier to the new permanent clarifier and complete water quality testing required by Northern Health,” a July 23 Facebook post read. 

“During initial operations of the new clarifier, the district will issue a boil water notice as a precaution. This notice will remain in place until all testing has been completed, which is anticipated to take between two to four weeks.”

Further updates regarding the boil water notice will be made available by the district once the date is confirmed, with the plan being to give residents as much notice as possible.
