CHETWYND, B.C. — The Chetwynd RCMP’s investigation has determined a potential threat at Chetwynd secondary school was ‘unfounded.’

According to a press release on March 10th, the RCMP received a report on March 6th of a potential threat at Chetwynd Secondary School.

It was an anonymous email that detailed a vague and unsubstantiated claim of ignored reports of a student attending a school with a knife.

This comes after an incident of violence involving a group of pupils prompted the school to work with parents, students and staff to ensure the safety of all school users.

Corporal Marika Masters, of the Chetwynd RCMP, said: “We recognize the fear and concern that such reports might cause in light of recent events.

“With that in mind, we wanted to address the misinformation within the community and online by letting everyone know that the school is safe.”

Eight people were killed at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School on February 10th by 18-year-old Jesse Van Rootselaar, who also died.

The police have said they found no evidence to support the claims in the anonymous report about Chetwynd Secondary School, but they will continue to work with local schools to ensure continued safety.
