Former Dawson Creek councillor facing charge waives preliminary inquiry right

A former Dawson Creek councillor charged with breach of trust, Shaely Wilbur, has waived her right to a preliminary inquiry and will next appear in court in Fort St. John on March 30th.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C.— A former Dawson Creek councillor has waived her right to a preliminary inquiry for a breach of trust charge. 

According to the BC Prosecution Service, Shaely Wilbur will proceed straight to court in Fort St. John.

This comes after Wilbur was scheduled for an inquiry to take place on February 19th and 20th, 2026 in Dawson Creek.

She served as a city councillor from 2012 to 2021 and was charged with breach of trust for an incident that allegedly happened on December 1st, 2021. 

Breach of trust is an indictable offence, it means it is a serious crime with a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison. 

She will next appear at the Fort St. John Law Courts on March 30th at 10 a.m. for a “scheduling” appearance
