According to the foundation, the fund has been designed to support long-term recovery, with initiatives and programs guided by local leadership to address evolving community needs.

“This tragedy has shaken Tumbler Ridge and all of us across the region,” said Heather Kohler, NEBCCF board chair.

“Our role as a community foundation is to stand beside communities not only in the immediate aftermath, but for the long road ahead.”

Kohler said the fund represents a commitment to “sustained care, thoughtful stewardship and locally-guided healing,” adding the NEBCCF will work closely with community leaders to ensure support reaches those who need it most.

Jennifer Moore, the NEBCCF’s executive director, emphasized the importance of remaining responsive as needs change over time.

“This fund allows us to respond as needs change,” said Moore.

“Community foundations serve as trusted pillars in their community, mobilizing to be responsive in support of healing in the community. Our community foundation network across the nation is walking this path with us.”

The foundation says it is committed to managing the fund with “care, transparency and accountability” on behalf of donors and the community.

It also acknowledged other fundraising efforts are underway to support individuals and families directly impacted by the tragedy, and said the Tumbler Ridge Community Resilience Fund is intended to complement those.

Those who want to contribute to the Tumbler Ridge Community Resilience Fund can do so on CanadaHelps or by contacting the NEBCCF directly at (250) 784-8748 ext 104.
