Permitted burn causes visible smoke near Fish Creek

Smoke seen near Fish Creek is the result of a permitted burn and is no cause for concern, according to the Fort St. John Fire Department.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A permitted burn near Fish Creek is creating smoke, but there is no need for concern. 

That’s according to the Fort St. John Fire Department, which posted to Facebook at 3:33 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20th to acknowledge and reassure those who have reported smoke and fire north of the community forest. 

“We appreciate residents taking the time to report this,” the department said in the post. “Thank you for looking out for our community.”

This comes after a fire at Fish Creek Community Forest broke out on May 1st last year

The fire was determined to be accidental by the BC Wildfire Service and burned 56 hectares of land before it was declared ‘out’ on May 9th.
