FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A snowfall warning has been issued for the Peace region today.

Environment Canada predicts steady snowfall on January 1st, building up an extra 10 to 15 centimetres on the ground in the north and south Peace River areas, Williston region and the Pine Pass.

It says snow is expected to get lighter tonight and tomorrow (January 2nd), but cautions drivers and pedestrians that travel will “likely be challenging.”

The warning is a ‘yellow’ level, which means the hazardous weather may cause damage, disruption or health impacts, but the effects will be “moderate, localized and/or short-term.” It is the most common designation.

This comes after Fort St. John was blanketed in near-record snowfall in December
