Fort St. John 2025 annual report details city’s effort to build and manage assets

The City of Fort St. John’s annual report provides details of the city’s effort to build and manage assets to support the city’s current and future needs.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The city’s annual report for 2025 highlighted the city’s effort to build and manage assets to support its current and future needs, which included completing $36.8 million in capital projects. 

At the June 22nd City of Fort St. John public meeting, city staff presented the 2025 annual report, which detailed the city’s effort to maintain and improve public facilities and assets. 

According to the report, the city has completed $36.8 million in capital projects to improve its infrastructure, including roads, underground utilities, and facilities.

The most notable projects include the 89th Avenue phase two rebuild, Kin Park east upgrades, and the 101st Avenue rebuild. 

The city also received $34 million in grants from provincial, federal, and other agencies, including $28 million in funding from the Peace River agreement. 

In addition, the city used the integrated design process to begin work on the 106th Street Water Reservoir Replacement Project, which will bring together the construction contractor, tank supplier, and engineering team to reduce costs and improve construction coordination.

The city also conducted a CCTV sanitary sewer inspection program on over 60 kilometres of sewer mains to provide accurate condition assessments, the report noted. 

It also continued the increased road overlay program to extend the life of more roads and ensure safe and efficient traffic movement. 

In 2025, the city took a leadership role in the new aquatic facility, aiming to advance the project toward a public funding decision, coinciding with the 2026 general local election. 

The city later signed a letter of intent with XJ Evergreen Estates to explore a site for the new aquatics facility within the Parkwood Southlands development. 

The city also recognized over 30 years of funding from the Peace River Agreement, which supports the development of a healthy, vibrant community and a thriving economic place for businesses, residents and industries. 

In 2025, the City of Fort St. John received the Government Financial Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) Canadian Award for Financial Reporting for its 2024 annual report.
