Fort St. John and District Palliative Care Society hosting getaway raffle

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A Fort St. John non-profit is hosting a giveaway to raise funds for people facing serious illnesses in the community. 

The Fort St. John and District Palliative Care Society is hosting a pop-up event on Saturday, June 27th, at Canadian Tire in Fort St. John from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

This pop-up event is part of the society’s “WestJet Getaway,” which is raising funds to support the society’s services.

Michelle Olaney, coordinator at the Fort St. John Palliative Care Society, explained what the society offers.

“We are a local non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families facing serious illnesses, end-of-life care and grief,” she said. 

According to Olaney, the society has a volunteer program, grief support and educational and comfort resources. 

The society also offers a hospital bed loan program. 

Olaney explained why people should participate in the getaway raffle.

“It’s a chance to win an incredible WestJet travel prize, but also it is to make a real difference when you purchase a ticket from us, as you never know when services are needed that we offer,” she said. 

“Most times, chances are someone knows someone or will know someone in the future that will use these services.”

Tickets for the getaway are $10 each, with 2,000 tickets available. 

Olaney said the society has sold around 400 tickets as of June 26th. 

The society is “very grateful” for the community’s support, according to Olaney.

“When you buy a ticket, you’re not just entering to win, you’re becoming part of the compassionate care that makes our community stronger,” she said. 

The raffle winner receives a WestJet round-trip for two and will be selected on September 12th at the Moose FM block party.
