Washroom at Kin Park damaged by fire

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A washroom at Kin Park was set on fire earlier this week.

According to the City of Fort St. John in a Facebook post, the fire occurred on October 15th between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. in a washroom located on the west side of the park.

The city said the blaze caused damage to the facility, leaving the washrooms and pavilion heaters unavailable for about a week while repairs are completed.

In a comment under its post, the city said it is “working on installing cameras in select locations.” It added that security personnel were hired this summer to patrol many of the city’s parks during off-hours in hopes of deterring vandalism and similar behaviour.

The fire follows a similar incident at Mathews Park, where the washroom building was damaged after a blaze in a garbage canister in late July.
