HUDSON’S HOPE, B.C. —Hudson’s Hope Rodeo organizers are praising the success of the event which took place last weekend.

Locally known as the “greatest little rodeo in the world,” the event had 250 competitors in several rodeo disciplines, including traditional events such as bull riding, saddle bronc, bareback riding, steer wrestling, barrel racing, team roping, tie down roping and ranch bronc.

The event also had as much as $1,500 in prize money for some events, according to the rodeo’s committee vice-president Shona Smit.

Smit said the rodeo was the most attended since the event’s return back in 2023.

“It was packed,” said Smit. “It was brilliant. It was probably the busiest rodeo in the last three years, since we brought it back and it was flawless.

“I think this year we finally put Hudson’s Hope Rodeo back on the map.”

Although there was some wet weather and a thunderstorm, the event was only delayed for about 10 minutes, says Smit.

“I made my way down to the beer gardens to make sure that the tent didn’t take off,” said Smit. “Ten minutes later, that thunderstorm passed. We never saw more rain all weekend.”

She added that the addition of Travis Winnicky as the rodeo committee’s president last November was a “great asset” after former president Yvonne Moritz stepped down for personal reasons.

Smit said JC Rodeo Company, which provided the stock for the competition, was “such a breeze to work with” helping in all aspects of the event.

Official results of the rodeo will be released when they are available, according to Smit.

The 2025 Hudson’s Hope Rodeo took place in the District of Hudson’s Hope on July 26th and 27th.
