“The files accessed were primarily working files of select City departments,” Harvey said in an email exchange with Energeticcity.ca on March 12th, “and we continue to review them for any personal information.”

The incident began affecting the city on February 25th, bringing down phone and email services as well as much of the city’s internal network.

Since then, on March 6th, the city took to social media to share that more than 75 per cent of its front-facing services had become operational again.

Harvey confirmed to Energeticcity.ca some additional services have since been brought back online.

“While additional systems have come online, a few will take a bit longer to restore, such as the My City Hall portal for paying bills online,” Harvey explained.

Harvey wasn’t able to share any further information regarding the cyber attack due to “an ongoing internal and criminal investigation into the incident.”

City staff members say any residents whose sensitive personal information has been affected by the data breach will be notified. Residents are urged to monitor the city’s website for updates.
