The event was held at the Surerus Pipeline Inc. office on 91st Ave., with former senator and provincial MLA Richard Neufeld vocalizing his support for Davies’ re-election campaign.

During his speech, Davies spoke about his campaign promises, priorities, and intentions as an independent candidate campaigning to represent Peace River North.

These included improving local healthcare, increasing and upgrading infrastructure, including the Taylor Bridge and the Fort Nelson Rail Line, and supporting positive changes in the justice system to reduce ‘revolving door’ custody instances.

Davies spoke about the lack of support small and large businesses across the province receive from the current government and the benefits change would bring to Northeast B.C.

“We have right now a government that has a do not cut it, do not drill it, do not mine it policy, and because of that, all of us are paying,”

Davies reiterated his experience and commitment to representing the region, stating that this election was about sending the best conservative to represent Peace River North in the legislature.

“At every moment in my last seven years in Victoria, I always talk about Fort St. John, or Taylor, or Hudson’s Hope, Fort Nelson, the region at large. Because we are important to British Columbia, this region is absolutely important. And I think people in Victoria have forgotten that,” Davies said.

Davies also shared his excitement about running as an independent candidate. He stated he would not join the NDP party if elected and would only join the Conservative party if he felt it was in the best interest of his constituents.

“I do this for my kids, I do this for your kids, I do this for us, I do this for the businesses that are struggling because I want to see us prosper here. I want to see Fort Nelson prosper, I want to see us do well, I want to see us as a vibrant community, and those are the really important things that I will never walk away from.”

Advance voting will be open from October 10th to 16th, excluding October 14th, which is a provincial statutory holiday. The final date to vote is October 19th at 8 p.m.

Residents interested in voting early can do so in person at any district electoral office until 4 p.m. Pacific time on October 19th.
