DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — Dawson Creek will soon have a new face at the helm, as after six years as both a councillor and mayor, Darcy Dober will not be seeking re-election.

Dober, the current mayor of Dawson Creek, said he will not be putting his name forward for re-election in the October 17th municipal election.

Dober said, “after a great deal of reflection,” he concluded he would not be able to give the city and his family his full attention.

“I have always believed that if I am going to do something, I need to give it everything I have, and I don’t feel I could commit to another term without impacting the balance I need to maintain with my family,” he said.

“For that reason alone, I have decided not to seek re-election,” said Dober

“This decision was not made lightly,” Dober said. “In many ways, every part of me wanted to put my name forward again.”

Dober was elected to the city council in 2020 before becoming mayor in 2022 after he defeated fellow mayoral candidate Shaely Wilbur with 84.9 per cent of the vote, according to CivicInfoBC,

Dober is currently serving as the Vice Chair on the Board of Directors for the Peace River Regional District, according to the City of Dawson Creek website.

Dober said he leaves his role as mayor with a “tremendous sense of gratitude, pride and humility,” and that serving the community has been an honour, and he will always be thankful for the opportunity and support from residents.
