FORT NELSON, B.C. — Fort Nelson is expected to receive up to 20 centimetres of snowfall in some areas on Monday, according to Environment Canada.

The agency has a snowfall warning in effect for Fort Nelson, saying around 15 centimetres is expected to fall across the region, with up to 20 centimetres of snowfall in some high-elevation areas.

“In addition, gusty north winds of 30 to 50 kilometres per hour will cause areas of blowing snow over higher terrain,” the warning reads.

According to the warning, the snowfall hit because of a low-pressure system passing through the area thanks to a “significant upper disturbance” moving across the province.

That pressure system is expected to move south in the evening, meaning the snow and wind from the north will ease, and the warning will end.

In the meantime, residents are being warned to keep an eye out for rapidly changing and deteriorating travel conditions, and that visibility may be suddenly reduced on the roads thanks to the snowfall.
