UPDATE: Nearly all power outages in Peace region resolved

 Multiple power outages occurred in Fort St. John and the surrounding area Tuesday morning, leaving approximately 1,188 BC Hydro customers without electricity.

UPDATE #2 (Jan.31): Nearly all outages from Tuesday have been restored.

UPDATE: Most of the power outages in Fort St. John have been restored. The only active outage within city limits is west of Mason Pitt Road, and is it affecting 46 BC Hydro customers.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Multiple power outages occurred in Fort St. John and the surrounding area Tuesday morning, leaving approximately 1,188 BC Hydro customers without electricity.

The first outage occurred at 8:35 a.m. west of Paradise Street, north of Hilltop Drive, south of Charlie Lake Crescent and East of Wright Road in the Charlie Lake area, affecting 172 customers, according to BC Hydro’s outage map. 

The cause of the outage is under investigation, and a BC Hydro crew has been assigned. 

The second outage occurred around 8:05 a.m. in the 13400 block of 281 Road in the Charlie Lake area, affecting approximately five customers.

A tree falling across powerlines caused the outage, and BC Hydro crews are on the way to work on restoring power in the area.

The third outage occurred at 8:49 a.m. west of Mason Pitt Road, south of 85th Avenue, east of Enterprise Way, and north of Old Fort Road, affecting 46 customers in the Fort St. John area.

The cause of the outage is under investigation, and a BC Hydro crew has been assigned. 

The fourth and largest outage occurred at 8:50 a.m. near the North Peace Regional Airport, north of the Alaska Highway, east of 82nd Street, and south of Road 255, affecting 960 customers. 

The cause of the outage is under investigation, and a BC Hydro crew has been assigned. 

The fifth outage occurred at 8:50 a.m. in the 9900 block of 102nd Street and the 10100 block of 99th Avenue, affecting approximately five customers. 

The cause is under investigation, and a crew has been assigned. 

The sixth outage occurred at 9:02 a.m. northwest of Sunnyside Drive, east of Krackling Cove Drive and south of Rainbow Drive in the Charlie Lake area, affecting approximately 18 customers. 

The cause is under investigation, and a crew has been assigned. 

The seventh outage occurred at 9:14 a.m. in the 13000 block of Goodbun Subdivision in the Charlie Lake area, affecting approximately five customers. 

The cause is under investigation, and a crew has been assigned.

Other municipalities in the Peace region are experiencing outages as well.

As of 10:30 a.m., approximately 863 customers in Dawson Creek are without power, along with 425 in Hudson’s Hope and 176 in Chetwynd.
