TAYLOR, B.C. — The district’s visitor centre in 2025 received 3,000 travellers, according to the annual report.

At the June 15th District of Taylor special council meeting, staff presented the 2025 annual report, which detailed the work of its operations department and its community services.

The district’s operations department, in spring and summer, worked with the golf course department to maintain irrigation pond levels at a satisfactory level to water the course.

It included daily pump inspections, maintaining system pressures, performing backwashes, and repairing pumps and controllers.

The two departments have taken on shared tasks for 2026 to reduce the need to hire contractors and rent equipment.

The operations team is also looking to order and install a new filter system in 2026 to replace the 25-year-old potable water system.

In addition, the department cleaned all sewer main lines, a task the district aims to complete annually to prevent sewer backups.

More work has been planned to complete the 2024 project at the deactivated landfill east of Taylor, which includes removing bulky metal waste.

The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) will take over from the Ministry of Environment’s landfill permit once the work is complete.

For this project, about two-thirds of the funding comes from federal and provincial grants, including the addition of a centrifuge to the Waste Water Treatment Plant.

A centrifuge is a machine that spins containers with mixed materials at very high speeds.

The district currently has two government grants for which the operations department applied, and they will be announced in the second quarter of 2026 if the department is successful.

The first grant is for an industrial bypass road, and the second is for phase two of a long-term water source study.

The district’s community services report detailed multiple community activities and seasonal events it hosted, like the Hill Climb, Santa Skate and Easter Eggstravaganza.

The report also noted that 400 people attended the district’s Remembrance Day; the visitor centre received 3,000 travellers; the seasonal pool had 25 school group bookings, 982 drop-ins, and 26 punch cards; and the facility operated for 729 hours.

The district also hosted the 53rd World Invitational Gold Panning Championship over the August long weekend at the Peace Island Park.
