(UPDATE) Outage after vehicle goes into ditch and downs power line in Fort St. John

Thirteen residents in Fort St. John do not have power after a vehicle went into a ditch, hit a power pole and downed a line on 267 Road on January 30th.

Update, January 30th, 1.18 p.m.: This story has been updated to include information from the BC Emergency Health Services.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C.— A motor vehicle incident has downed a power line in Fort St. John, resulting in an outage.

According to BC Hydro, a power outage is impacting 13 customers east of North Bank Road, south of 240th Road and west of Old Fort Road.

BC Hydro says crew are currently on-site, and it estimates the power will be restored by 4:30 p.m.

The Fort St. John RCMP were called to the scene of a single vehicle crash shortly after 9.30 a.m. on 267 Road. 

Corporal Madonna Saunderson, the RCMP’s North District communications officer, told Energeticcity.ca in a written statement: “A vehicle was in the ditch and had struck a power pole. The power pole remains standing, however a power line is on the ground.”

She said the driver safely exited the vehicle. 

The BC Emergency Health Services received a call at 9.36 a.m., and sent an advanced care paramedic response unit in an ambulance to the scene.

It said paramedics provided emergency medical treatment to one patient who was transported to hospital in a stable condition.
