Update, February 3rd, 1 p.m.: This story was updated to make clear who is organizing the event. Energeticcity.ca is happy to set the record straight.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — In order to book a future trip to the Big Apple, families involved with the Dawson Creek Dance Company are reaching into the past all the way back to the Middle Ages.

A ‘travel fundraising team’ – made up of the company’s dancers and their moms – is organizing a medieval faire or ‘King’s Court Banquet’ to raise funds for a July trip to New York, says team member Paige Healey.

The trip will include an excursion to the world-famous Radio City Music Hall, where the dancers will do workshops with the internationally known troupe, the Rockettes, and conduct additional seminars along Broadway, including with performers in the hit musical Wicked.

The company will also perform at the Intrepid Museum in the city.

However, Healey told Energeticcity.ca the travel fundraising group looked for unique ways to raise the $37,050 needed for 13 girls to head on the trip, adding a Christmas gift basket draw was held in December.

“We started planning a few months ago,” said Healey. “We got a few fundraisers going, just smaller ones, just to get us going and bring in a little bit of money to start planning this event.”

The mission of the King’s Court Banquet, according to a poster promoting the event, is “for an immersive, family-friendly evening of entertainment, celebration and generosity, while raising essential funds to support our dancers’ journey.”

Healey says games, including tricycle jousting where participants race on a children’s three-wheel vehicle, will be featured. They are also hoping to have a jester make jokes and performances throughout the evening.

Additionally, a feast will be offered courtesy of Hungry Duckling Catering of Dawson Creek. The entire event is set to be emceed by Danny Grant of the DGonemanband.

A 50/50 draw, where participants will get a key to unlock a chest for a prize, the crowning of a banquet king and queen for attendees who dress up in Renaissance outfits and a silent auction will take place.

Healey also says the company dancers will be rehearsing numbers to debut the night of the event, and other things are in store.

“We are working on it now, but we should have a photo booth set up for commemorative photos,” said Healey. “We are trying to cover all our bases to keep everyone entertained throughout the whole event. We want everyone’s bellies to be nice and full, and we want everyone to drink and have fun.”

The King’s Court Banquet is set to take place on Saturday, April 11th, 2026 at the Pouce Coupé Community Centre at 5010 52nd Avenue in the Village of Pouce Coupé.

Tickets are slated at $80, and those who attend will receive a commemorative beer stein. Check in at the event’s Facebook page for when tickets will be available.

The group is looking to raise $20,000 from this night alone, and is looking for sponsors to assist with the event. Those interested should contact Healey directly at 250-219-7314.
