Person dead and road closed in Alaska Highway collision
One person has died in a collision on the Alaska Highway, causing a road closure between kilometre 161 and 163.
FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A person has died in a collision that has closed the Alaska Highway.
According to Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC), Highway 97 between kilometre 161 and 163 is closed due to an incident.
Corporal Madonna Saunderson, the RCMP’s North District communications officer, told Energeticcity.ca that officers were called to a collision at just after noon and are still on the scene.
Saunderson confirmed there has been a fatality.
As per a post shared on Dawson Road Maintenance’s Facebook page, a detour has been set-up through Wonowon.
It is asking drivers to watch for traffic control and slow down for crew and equipment.
Dawson Road Maintenance provides highway maintenance services in four areas of British Columbia, including the North Peace.
