Fog warning extended for Metro Vancouver area, parts of Vancouver Island
VANCOUVER — An Environment Canada fog warning about near-zero visibility conditions across parts of Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island has been extended into Wednesday.
The weather agency says conditions for dense fog continue to persist in the region, stemming from a ridge of high pressure trapping moist air.
The warning remains active for much of Metro Vancouver excluding the north shore, as well as inland parts of Vancouver Island including Port Alberni.
Fog prompted Vancouver International Airport to notify passengers of possible delays and disruptions over the weekend as pilots worked with low-visibility operations.
Environment Canada says the foggy conditions may improve in the afternoon but will redevelop overnight until another weather system pushes out the high pressure ridge mid-week.
It warns motorists to slow down and maintain safe following distances as visibility can be suddenly reduced without warning.
