Dawson Creek’s warming centre to close temporarily as temperatures rise

The Nawican Shelter closure started on December 28th and it is set to continue until December 30th.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — The City of Dawson Creek is temporarily closing its warming centre as temperatures rise. 

In a Facebook post uploaded to the City of Dawson Creek Facebook page, the city said it is closing its warming centre until December 30th. 

This comes after the city extended the service to January 6th.

The closure of the Nawican Shelter started on December 28th and is set to continue until December 30th while temperatures rise above the warming centre’s thresholds for a short period. 

Services are set to resume once the temperatures return to -10 C or colder for more than 24 hours. 

According to Environment Canada, on December 30th, forecasts predict a high of 5 C and a low of -14 C.

The city will continue to monitor conditions closely and share updates, it said.
