Dawson Creek extends warming centre operation as cold snap continues

Dawson Creek has extended its warming centre – the Nawican Shelter – to January 6th to help the community amid the severe weather conditions.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — The City of Dawson Creek is keeping its warming centre open to help the community during the upcoming severe weather conditions. 

In a Facebook post uploaded to the City of Dawson Creek, the city announced it is extending the warming centre’s opening to January 6th. 

This comes after the city announced on December 5th about opening the centre at 1401st and 102nd Avenue.

The Nawican Shelter will be open 24/7 to provide a warm place for people in need of support during this cold spell. 

Environment Canada forecasts predict a low of -22 C on Thursday, December 18th and a wind chill reaching -33 C. There is also a risk of frostbite and periods of snow expected. 

A snowfall warning has also been issued for the South Peace and Pine Pass on December 17th.
