Indigenous-led comedy tour to include date in Dawson Creek

The Bad Apples Comedy Tour will also feature stops in the Yukon and Northwest Territories throughout October.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — A comedy tour featuring Indigenous comedians will make a tour up to northern B.C. throughout October.

The 18-stop Bad Apples Comedy Tour will feature stops in the Yukon and Northwest Territories. Included on the itinerary is a show on Friday, October 24th at Athens Bar and Grill in Dawson Creek.

The tour will be hosted by Chris Basso, and the bill will feature Indigenous comics Nelson Mayer and Clayton T. Stewart.

Basso is a comedy veteran who has toured in 2025 with troupe the Comedy Misfits. According to his Facebook page, the Winnipeg-born comic – who now lives in Nanaimo, B.C. -has toured all over Canada and the United States.

Nelson Mayer is a Winnipeg-based comic of Métis ancestry. He won the Comedian of the North competition back in 2020, and has hosted the Aboriginal People’s Television Network (APTN) program Got Identity. 

The series featured Nelson researching his ancestry, speaking with community members, and aired for one season in 2022.

Stewart is described as “telling jokes and most of the time people laugh…most of the time,” is also from Winnipeg and has also worked as a cinematographer.

Promising nights of “laughter, storytelling and cultural connection,” the Bad Apples Comedy Tour will also make stops in Hope, 100 Mile House, Kitimat, Prince George, Terrace and Quesnel during its trip to B.C.

Stopping in the Peace River region, the show will take place at Athens Bar and Grill at 800 120th Avenue in Dawson Creek on Friday, October 24th.  Doors will open at 7 p.m. with the show starting at 8 p.m.

“This tour isn’t just about telling jokes,” says Mayer. “It’s about showing how humour can break down walls, bring people together, and give voice to our shared experiences.”

A guy who found his calling later in life, Edward Hitchins is a professional storyteller with a colourful and extensive history.

Beginning his journey into journalism in 2012 at Seneca College, Edward also graduated from Humber College with an Advanced Diploma in Print and Broadcast Journalism in 2018.  After time off from his career and venturing into other vocations, he started his career proper in 2022 in Campbell River, B.C.

Edward was attracted to the position of Indigenous Voices reporter with Energeticcity as a challenge.  Having not been around First Nations for the majority of his life, he hopes to learn about their culture through meaningful conversations while properly telling their stories. 

In a way, he hopes this position will allow both himself and Energeticcity to grow as a collective unit as his career moves forward and evolves into the next step.

He looks forward to growing both as a reporter and as a human being while being posted in Fort St. John.
