Share expertise, collaborate, give back: Volunteer sought for agricultural fund committee

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) is looking for an agricultural producer from the region to join a committee.

The BC Peace Agricultural Compensation Fund Committee helps oversee the BC Hydro Peace Agriculture Fund, a $20 million fund established in 2018 as part of the Site C Agricultural Mitigation and Compensation Plan. 

The fund is administered by the Northern Development Initiative Trust and provides grants twice a year to support agriculture in the Peace region. It recently approved the largest grant in its history, with $770,000 going towards a project pitched by the North Pine Farmers Institute.

The fund is governed by a 10-member board of directors, with six members appointed from regional agricultural associations or the PRRD, one Peace River Valley producer and three members-at-large, who aren’t appointed by an agricultural association or hold officer titles.

The volunteer position, one of the members-at-large, is for a three-year term.

The PRRD said in a Facebook post today that the volunteer position is a chance for producers to share their expertise, collaborate with others and give back to the community by helping guide decisions on grant funding.
