Highway 52 road closure shifts as firefighters tackle Kiskatinaw River wildfire
A road closure has been issued for Highway 52 in both directions between One Island Lake Road and Kiskatinaw Forest Service Road due to the wildfire near the Kiskatinaw River.
FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Kiskatinaw River wildfire has caused a road closure on Highway 52 east to change as of last night.Â
DriveBC issued an update to a road closure on Highway 52 at 9 p.m., June 2nd due to the Kiskatinaw River wildfire moving closer to the area.Â
According to DriveBC, the wildfire is now located between 209th Road and Stone Creek Road for 18.9km, prompting a total closure of Highway 52 in both directions.Â
The closure is now located between One Island Lake Road and Kiskatinaw Forest Service Road. DriveBC will issue an update on this closure at 2:30 p.m. on June 3rd.Â
The latest update from the BC Wildfire Service indicates the wildfire currently sits at 3,901.3 hectares in size.Â
Evacuation orders and alerts have been issued for the region by the Peace River Regional District (PRRD) and the County of Grande Prairie on May 29th. The PRRD has extended evacuees’ emergency support services to June 8th, and structure protection units have been set up to protect buildings in Kelly Lake.
