‘Anybody can come’: FSJ disc golf club’s new board seeks to make sport more accessible
Fort St. John Disc Sports Club wants people to know the sport is open for all to come and try the game at Toboggan Hill and in Charlie Lake.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The new president of the Fort St. John Disc Sports Club wants to know that availability is the name of the game in continuing the local growth of the sport.
Steven Ford was appointed to the club’s board earlier this month after the departure of board members Alex Adkins, Tim Atchison and Josh Stokmans.
Ford says he wants to let people know the sport is open for all to come and try the game. The North Peace has courses around the area, including at Toboggan Hill and in Charlie Lake.

“We’re planning on making it [a] very fun, friendly environment for people to come out and enjoy,” said Ford. “Anybody can come up and play. You can come around and learn about the sport if you want to play.”
New for 2025 will be weekly league and club nights. League night is scheduled for Wednesdays, while club night will be scheduled for Thursday evenings. Both began the last week of May.
Ford says league nights will offer an “edge of competitiveness” while club nights are for all participants to come and learn the sport.
“It’s more open for families,” said Ford. “If people want to bring their kids they are more than welcome to. People there will be able to help guide and teach people for club night.”

When it comes to the actual maintenance of courses, the club is looking to “solidify some things” held over from 2024, according to Ford.
This includes cementing some holes at the Toboggan Hill course with assistance from the City of Fort St. John and sponsors.
“We have some baskets we want to cement in,” said Ford. “…That way, we can put a bolt and lock on it, so people can’t take it away.”
Going forward, Ford would like to see the sport grow. The All Joes tournament is scheduled for later this summer, and he’d also like to put a tournament together at a local club golf course, although right now it is just an idea.
He said the club relies on its “awesome sponsors” to continue in Fort St. John.
They include Pro Pile, FSJ Chiropractic Clinic, Mustang Rentals, Ambitious Hotshot and Piloting, Kim Van, Bartek Wireline Services, Dan’s Oilfield Rentals, Epscan Industries, Hell’s Half Acre Coffee Company, Kal Tire, the Rotary Club of Fort St. John and Rogers Trucking.
“It’s awesome having the community be involved so much,” said Ford.
League and club nights for the FSJ Disc Sports Club take place on Wednesday and Thursday nights all summer at Toboggan Hill Course at 8631 96th Avenue starting at 6:30 p.m. for league night, with club night starting at 6 p.m.
