CLAYHURST, B.C. — People living in the Golata Creek area have the chance to pitch their ideas for new potential projects at its former community space.

In a press release on April 11th, the Peace River Regional District (PRRD) said it will seek input on the future of the former Golata Creek Community Hall at 6161 Golata Creek road.

Located 37 kilometres east of Taylor, near Clayhurst, the community hall was closed in 2022 due to structural safety issues and repairs were determined to be too expensive.

The PRRD said the board has since approved a $500,000 budget for developing a new potential project.

“Community members, the Golata Creek Community Association and the PRRD board will

determine the future of the property through a collaborative process,” said the PRRD.

Options for the space include building a new facility, creating an outdoor recreational infrastructure or pursuing other community-driven alternatives.

Residents can also indicate what taxes they want to pay for the potential projects.

Input will be collected through a community survey and will be available until May 2nd.

“Use the community ideas tool to upload thoughts or pictures about their ideal community space and review project documents,” said the PRRD.

The PRRD will also host a community meeting at the Clearview Arena on April 30th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The arena is located at 13772 223 Road in Goodlow.

“At the meeting, residents will receive a project update and be able to share ideas on the development of the community space to inform future direction,” said the PRRD.

Further questions can be referred to the community services department by calling 250-784-3200 or emailing community.services@prrd.bc.ca.
