FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Fort St. John Huskies will begin their Strike Group North West Junior Hockey League (NWJHL) playoffs next Wednesday against the Fairview Flyers.

Despite being tied atop the league with defending champions La Crete at 66 points with just two games to go, head coach Todd Alexander’s squad isn’t expected to take the last-place Flyers lightly.

He describes the regular season as “40 exhibition games” with the playoffs being the puck drop on the “real season”.

“It’s a different frame of mind,” said Alexander. “She’s a win-or-go-home sort of deal. The boys have set their goals and their eye on a specific goal [of a championship] this season.

“You got to give credit to them. They’re a prideful group, and they’re [going to] want to show up and make sure they compete each and every game.”

Fort St. John has dominated the Flyers, who are in the midst of a rebuild, throughout the season taking all five contests before Saturday’s season finale.

Fairvew’s record is just 3-34-2 throughout the season. However, the Flyers have played better versus the Huskies lately, with the last two games being one-goal affairs.

The first round of the NWJHL playoffs kicks off Wednesday, February 5th at the North Peace Arena.

After heading to Fairview for game two on February 7th, the best-of-five series heads back to North Peace Arena for game three on February 8th.

Game four (if necessary) is scheduled for February 14th in Fairview, with game five on a yet-to-be-determined date at North Peace Arena.

Further information about the Huskies is available at the team’s Facebook page, Instagram or website.
