FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Northern Combat Club’s eighth invitational (NCI 8) kicks off on Saturday, February 17th, and will feature a lineup of professional fighters from across the region.

The soldout show is slated to occur at the Fort St. John Legion, hosting a lineup of 16 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) grappling fights with special guest referee — MMA legend Shannon Ritch.

Northern Combat Club owner and head coach Clint Parker says this invitational will be unlike any other he’s hosted so far, providing a unique, live entertainment experience for attendees.

“Submission of the night will win $500, best match will win $400,” said Parker.

“There will be cash prizes to win. It’s kind of like a pro event, these guys can actually get paid to compete.”

The invitational will feature a heavyweight championship between Fort St. John’s Steven Smith and Fort Nelson’s Brad Savage, and a lightweight matchup between Dawson Creek’s Dan Cosens and Grande Prairie’s Randy Mahon.

Parker says he hopes the event will help grow the BJJ community across the region and provide a competitive experience for local fighters — without the usual travel time and expenses.

“We can actually bring the competition to us instead of having to travel 12 hours to Vancouver or eight hours to Edmonton,” said Parker.

“I think we have tons of interest and more than enough talent to do it right here.”
