Fort St. John International Airshow cancelled
The 2024 Fort St. John International Airshow was cancelled on Monday morning due to a lack of resources and the risk of another severe wildfire season.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The 2024 Fort St. John International Airshow has been cancelled due to a lack of resources and the risk of another severe wildfire season.
The event runs every two years and was expected to take place on August 3rd and 4th.
Following the announcement on February 5th, airshow director Georgia Green says the Fort St. John International Airshow Society made the decision because they do not have enough people to run and plan the event.

“The stars are not aligning for us this year,” Green said.
Green says another factor weighing heavily on the board is the possibility of another severe wildfire season.
“We know it’s probably going to be a tough year, again, for wildfires, which means that it could seriously hamper our ability to even host a show regardless of the date,” Green said.
The director says if there’s smoke, many of the planes wouldn’t be able to fly, meaning the board would have to cancel the show anyway.

“We thought it was a smarter idea to say, ‘Let’s cancel this year and work on planning an even better show in the future,” Green said.
She says the board hasn’t yet determined when the next show will take place, but they hope to figure it out soon.
The cancellation comes two months after the CF18 Hornet was announced to appear in Fort St. John for the first time since 2017 in place of the Snowbirds.
