Fort St. John goalie in contention for WHL Rookie of the Year

Fort St. John product Evan Gardner, who goaltends for the Saskatoon Blades, is in contention to be named the Western Hockey League Rookie of the Year.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Fort St. John product Evan Gardner, who goaltends for the Saskatoon Blades, is in contention to be named the Western Hockey League (WHL) Rookie of the Year.

Should he win the title, Gardner will take home the league’s Jim Piggott Memorial Trophy. 

Currently, Gardner ranks second in the WHL with a Goals Against Average (GAA) measure of 2.04, a 0.925 save percentage, and a 12-5-0-1 record.

With a 31-9-2-2 record, the Blades presently sit in first place in the WHL.

Prior to his rookie season with the Blades, Gardner played at RINK Hockey Academy in Kelowna from 2020 to 2023.
