FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Blizzard Bicycle Club members hit the pavement on Monday for the 40th annual New Year’s Day Ride.

“We went for a ten-kilometre circuit around the town core,” said Ferris.

“Everybody was on a variety of different bikes. Some people had fat-tire bikes, some had road bikes, some had mountain bikes — a whole variety of machines. It wasn’t really cold, it was enough for all of us as far as temperature goes, and it was a very good ride.”

The bicycle club’s New Year’s Day Ride began in 1984. Ferris says the event has been “enduring” for the club, which is entering its 42nd year.

“[The Blizzard Bicycle Club] appreciates the support,” said Ferris.

“Fort St. John has been a great city for cycling, and it’s because of the people out there supporting us year after year.”

Ferris says the club’s season usually begins in early spring.

“We need to get rid of the snow to cycle,” said Ferris.

“So, generally, our season starts in late March and then through to October.”
