CHARLIE LAKE, B.C. — Tse’k’wa has opened for self-guided tours now that outside construction has been completed and just in time for the launch of a new website.

Alyssa Currie, executive director for the Tse’k’wa Heritage Society, said they completed the final portion of their outdoor infrastructure development last week with the arrival of shade covers for the amphitheatre at the site.

“Those went up last week and then immediately came down for the winter time,” said Currie.

Now that the outdoor developments are finished, she said the society has shifted its focus on research and educational work.

It’s a week of milestones for the society as they just launched a new website on Monday.

Currie said the new website was part of a two-year branding transformation.

“The website is an opportunity for us to build awareness about the site and the vision and value of Tse’k’wa to hopefully connect with new audiences,” Currie said.

“We’re especially excited about the opportunity to connect with youth and those that aren’t physically able to visit the site and make sure that the educational content is shared in an engaging way.”

The executive director said the website was structured in a way so they can continue to add to it, particularly with the educational content.

“We’re hoping that this website will serve as a launching point for future educational and cultural content that we’ll be able to share online,” Currie said.

She said the society is grateful for the funding and support from NDIT and the First People Cultural Council in building the website.

The historic site is open to self-guided tours Monday to Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 12629 Butte Lane in Charlie Lake.
