FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Fort St. John Salvation Army recently received a $3,900 donation from Peace Country Toyota this week that will be used to address the ongoing food bank shortage the organization is facing.

“The support from Toyota shows their support for our community. Though they don’t have a dealership in Fort St. John, they recognize the business they receive from our community and want to give back in a meaningful way,” said Jared Braun, executive director of the Fort St. John Salvation Army.

“As our shelves have been running low, this gift will strengthen our efforts to meet the many needs we encounter.”

Braun posted a video to the organization’s Facebook page on September 13th, explaining the shortage and encouraging citizens to donate what they could.

The reason behind the shortage is due to the rising demand of applicants and the cost of food over the last two years, said Braun.

Many community members and businesses have stepped up to help the organization since Braun posted the video.

“It’s been very encouraging. I’m working with our team to coordinate a bigger food order this week to help boost up the shelves.”

The donation the Salvation Army received is a part of Toyota’s Cars for Good initiative.
