Dawson Creek man charged for hunting on cultivated property

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — A Dawson Creek man received a hefty fine for hunting on cultivated property in 2020.

Jason Stephen Lucas appeared in court on May 24th, 2023, and was found guilty of hunting on cultivated land without consent.

He was fined $1,545 in total, which included restitution and a victim surcharge, and the conservation officers seized the moose, rifle and ammunition as part of the investigation.

Lucas is also banned from hunting in B.C. for one year.

The moose meat was donated, and the majority of the penalty will go to the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation, according to the BC Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS).

The BCCOS reminds people to be aware of the land they are hunting on, as landowner permission may be required.
